WATCH THE RIG TO PUMP TV SHOW ON YOUTUBE, BE REENERGISED
Prince Oluwafemi Odulaja- Producer/ Presenter of Rig to Pump

In the era whereof duplication of ideas and pedestrian television content have taken over the screens, some creative individuals still find it necessary to produce unique and need-oriented TV content for the audience with quality taste and niche needs. Shoots.ng engaged the producer and anchor of the specialised TV programme, Rig to Pump, Prince Oluwafemi Odulaja shared some insights with our team. Enjoy the excerpts.

Shoots.ng: What is the idea behind Rig to Pump and what makes it unique from other existing programmes of the same nature?

Femi Odulaja: The idea behind Rig to Pump https://youtube.com/channel/UCR2uRaTzpZwG-i4WhJdZssQ is to get people informed on activities in the oil and gas industry beyond the basic refined products that the masses use domestically on daily basis, bringing to bare our experience of over 25years in the industry. It is a new interactive talk show that brings information and insights to different topics that affect and interest the final consumers of these products and also seeks to bridge the gap between the various stakeholders in the industry.

Shoots.ng: What feedback have you received so far from viewers?

Femi Odulaja: So far, the feedback has been positive.

Shoots.ng: What are the challenges faced in the process of producing the content for Rig to Pump?

Femi Odulaja: The normal business start-up challenges within the media and other industries in Nigeria. Lack of infrastructure, amenities and a conducive environment for business, electricity, multiple taxations etc.

There are the static and dynamic parts to getting and producing the content. Static is the planned production of content – the cost implication of having your studio, equipment or having to book a commercial studio. Dynamic is the coverage of breaking news either positive or negative. Reaching out to experts, and authorities within the industry to get views on the breaking situation.

Shoots.ng: What’s the big picture(future) for this programme?

Femi Odulaja: To be a global player in the industry, which will mean diversifying into other aspects. Taking a broader view of the Energy Industry – Renewable energy

Shoots.ng: Why do you think Nigerians need this type of content?

Femi Odulaja: It is needed because so many people have little knowledge of the products they use. Looking from the safety angle including but not limited to the handling of such products, most consumers do not know the risk inherent in the day-to-day use of the products, for example refuelling a running petrol generator, gas cylinder handling, handling/storage of hydrocarbon. Are you aware that it is hazardous to use plastic containers known as kegs or jerry cans to move or store fuel due to electrostatic charges? There is also a business angle to this for Nigerians, like creating awareness of the local content philosophy of the government. The government wants Nigerians to get involved and take ownership which could drive growth, and skill acquisition and help drive the advancement of technology.

Shoots.ng: What’s the plan to get sponsors and advertisers on board?

Femi Odulaja: The strategy is to increase the number of views, viewers, subscriptions to Rig to Pump channels, social media handles and then intensify the sponsorship drive based on the traffic to our channels.

Shoots.ng: Why did you choose to produce this kind of technical content?

Femi Odulaja: I have been part of the industry for over 25yrs and trying to bring my wealth of experience to make whatever difference I can make, to get particularly the consumers of the petroleum product to understand the risk associated with the products they use. Minimise the rate of incidents, and near-misses and also reduce fatalities.

Shoots.ng: How do you manage to finance the production?

Femi Odulaja:  Self finance

Shoots.ng: what do you want to be remembered for as far as this production is concerned?

Femi Odulaja:  The knowledge impacted on the people who are stakeholders either as a regulator, by profession or consumers. That the people are better informed, which would have reduced the negative impact in terms of the rate of near-misses, incidents etc

Shoots.ng: who are you and what do you do in full?
