AMVCA 2022: WILL AMINA LEAD HER NOMINATIONS TO THE PROMISE LAND?

Africa Magic Introduces three new categories in AMVCA2022
Izu Ojukwu may repeat the history of his winning spree in the 2007 at the third edition of Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, south south, Nigeria where he cleared five out of his nine nominations for the film- Sitanda. The nine nominations were; best picture, best actress in supporting role, best upcoming actor, best Nigerian film, best cinematography, best original screenplay, best original sound track, best sound and best director. The ‘African Spielberg’ as fondly called by his admirers went away with best picture, best actress in supporting role, best Nigerian film, best original screenplay and best director.
Fifteen years and ten days after, precisely 10th March, 2007, Izu’s Amina has again attracted thirteen nominations at the 8th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award – AMVCA 2022 when the nomination list was announced on Sunday, 20th March, 2022. Will Izu Ojukwu repeat the same feat of AMAA 2007 with Amina when the final results for AMVCA 2022 are finally announced?
Amina, named in 13 different categories led the nomination chart. Funke Akindele’s Omo Ghetto (The Saga) and Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story followed closely with 10 nominations each. Ramsey Noah’s Nneka The Pretty Serpent bagged 7 nominations, while Damilola Orimogunje’s For Maria Ebun Pataki made it to 6 categories.
Competing in the most coveted category, OVERALL BEST MOVIE, are, Amina, Voiceless, Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story, Collision Course, Omo Ghetto (The Saga), Nneka The Pretty Serpent, La Femme Anjola, and Just In Time.
For this edition, Africa Magic announced a new category for Best Online Social Content Creator and the return of the Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series and Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series, bringing the total number of categories to 33. According to Africa Magic, 12 categories will be open to viewers’ vote and 21 will be decided by the AMVCA panel of judges headed by veteran filmmaker and president of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Victor Okhai. Some of the other categories include Best Movie in Southern, East and West Africa, Best Director, and Best Cinematographer.
