KUNLE AFOLAYAN ET NETFLIX: A MARRIAGE OF MEN, MOVIES AND MONEY
If truly, luck is an opportunity that meets preparedness, the world may agree with me that the middle name of the prolific film maker and MD/CEO of KAP Hub should be Lucky. He has not only prepared for juicy opportunities, but also positioned himself for better days in the art he holds dearly to heart.
Though, this is not Kunle’s first deal or collaboration with brands and multinationals, the recent three-pointer from number one film streaming platform across the globe is dope. It is no more news that Kunle Afolayan’s Golden Effects Pictures business relationship with Netflix has continued to blossom in the areas of content provision and capacity development.
This symbiotic relationship has no doubt created employment opportunities to many stakeholders in the film industry, as it brings together more than a thousand manpower across the cinematic value chain and also improving pro-poor tourism around the film locations.
This handshake has also provided platform for quality film outputs that are streaming across the globe, hence pushing the real stories of Nigeria and Nigerians across the borders. These films that portray the cultural value and identity of Nigerians have come to contain and curtail the cultural invasion that was borne out of foreign flicks that once dominated our indigenous screens.
However, when two good heads meet, obviously the success stories are always huge- so the return on investment from both ends. It is no gain saying that, Netflix is enjoying tremendous eyeballs that are dollar related. And the film streaming platform will always invest in such commercial films that are people-oriented and money spinning from a tested and trusted master of neo-nollywood.
Consequent upon the marriage of KAP Hub and Netflix, the former is currently cooking the second of the three course meal handed in trust to it by the latter- the first being Naija Christmas. Somewhere in the newly acquired and developed KAP Film Village Studio and Resort Igbojaye, Komu in Itesiwaju Local Government, Oyo State, a new avant garde flick that promises to break all Netflix box office records is going through the furnace.
The yet to be disclosed title parades the best role interpreters such as: Sola Sobowale, Hakeem K. Kazeem, Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Taiwo Hassan, Fathia Balogun, Adebayo Salami, Moji Olayiwola, Kareem Adepoju aka Babawande and many others.
May this matrimony continue to yield positive fruits.
