NOLLYWOOD QUEENS THAT WILL CALL THE SHOTS IN 2022

The Nollywood industry has a few female creative minds that are making waves and names for themselves as directors and producers. These women are playing in the big leagues with men and they are harvesting awards at different festivals/award ceremonies. In 2021, films shot by female directors were the half of the first 10 box office successes. In 2022, the ladies are doubling their efforts to churn out best movies and clear all awards. The following are notable amongst others for their works so far in the industry. The list is not in any particular order.

Mildred Okwo

She is an award winning movie director in Nollywood, she’s notable for her works ‘La Femme Anjola‘, ‘The Meeting‘, ‘30 days‘, etc. Her movie ’30days’ was concluded during the yuletide period and is yet to be at the cinemas. She graduated from the prestigious University of Benin, where she studied Theatre Arts. She is as well a talent manager and a US trained Attorney.

 

Judith Audu

Judith is an actress, producer and a director. She has many of her works lined up at different festival, as one of them was selected for the City to City project of The International Film Festival (TIFF). She’s a graduate of London Film Academy, London. Her movie works are; ‘Diary if the Damned‘, ‘The Family‘, ‘Just Not Married‘. She’s the CEO of Judith Audu Productions.

 

Blessing Effiom Egbe

Effiom is a former model actress who became famous for directing and producing her movie ‘Lekki house wives‘ in 2019. She’s a prolific writer, an actress, producer and director. Her other works are as follows; ‘Ten Virgins‘, ‘Two Bride and a Baby’, ‘Iquo’s Journal’, ‘One Room’, ‘The Women’.

 

Patience Oghre-Imobhio

Patience is an alumnus of University of Jos, where she studied Theatre Arts. She’s known for her hilarious works and she mostly produces soaps. She’s a notable film and television director.

She has the following works acclaimed to her; ‘Knockout‘, this movie was shown in major cinemas across Nigeria and it’s notable for being hilarious. She’s also done ‘Dominos’, ‘Everyday People’, ‘Dear Mother‘, these are leading amongst her soaps. She produced and directed the, ‘Three Wise Men’ and ‘Busted’.

 

Jade Osiberu

Jade is an alumnus of the University of Manchester, London, where she studied Computer and Systems Engineering. She is also a Masters Degree holder from the Pan Atlantic where she studied Media and Communications. She produced the renowned ‘Sugar Rush’ movie that came on in cinemas in 2019. She is an award-winning producer and director. Her movie ‘Isoken‘ got awarded as the best Nigerian Film at the 2018 edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Tope Oshin

Tope is a big female director and producer as her works barely go without an award. She’s an alumnus of the Colorado Film School. She handles big projects practically almost every year. She has directed several series; ‘Tinsel’, ‘MTV Shuga‘, ‘New Money’, ‘New Horizons‘, ‘Joirney to Self‘, ‘Up North‘, ‘Hotel Majestic‘.

 

Emem Isong-Misodi

Emem is a US- based prolific writer, producer and director in Nollywood. She’s the proprietor of Royal Arts Academy. She has released a number of movies that have featured notable actors and actresses in Nollywood. Her recent work is ‘Special Jellof‘ which had a mix of foreign and top Nigerian actors and actresses featured in it. It was shot in a location in the US.

Emem also wrote and produced, Ayanma, Champagne and Code of Silence.

 

Omoni Oboli

Omoni is a talented actress, movie writer, a producer and a film director. She’s currently based in the US but, it hasn’t deterred her from working. In 2019, she released two movies, ‘Love is War‘ and ‘Wives on Strike‘ (The Revolution). These movies till date are being aired and well received by her fans and more. Her other works in Nollywood are; ‘Moms at War‘, ‘Okafor’s Law‘, and ‘Being Mrs Elliot‘.

 

Funke Akindele-Bello

She owns the SceneOne Film Productions where the success of ‘Jenifa‘ has pushed her to make a series of it titled, ‘Jenifa’s Diary’. One of her recent projects which is, ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’, is currently grossing over 600million. Funke is good at what she does.

 

Kemi Adetiba

Her second part of King Of Boys was a bomb.
