Written by Odusanya Omowonuola

A little accolade will go a long way in encouraging and pushing us to do better in our various careers. Hence, the need for recognition in form of awards for actors and actresses in the movie industry.

The 16th edition of The Future Awards Africa which held in Lagos on Sunday, 20th February, 2022 has recognised young Nigerians in different fields. The Award is to  celebrate young people who have challenged the status quo in their respective spheres of influence and have worked to build lifelong legacies that will transform generations for years to come.

The event was hosted by Nollywood actress and show host, Nancy Isime who is also a past winner of the future awards. The Future Awards Africa (previously known as The Future Awards) is a set of awards given by The Future Project, a social enterprise communications firm affiliated to Red Africa. The awards are intended to celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration. Forbes has described the awards as “Nigeria’s most important awards for outstanding young Nigerians”.

Among this year’s winner is Bimbo Ademoye who won the award for acting and Kayode Kasum who won for film.

Bimbo Ademoye

Bimbo Ademoye (born 4th February 1991), is a Nigerian actress who started her acting career in 2014 when she was cast in the short film ‘Where Talent Lies’. The film received accolades from the Africa International Film Festival and In 2015, Ademoye was cast in her first feature film ‘Its About Your Husband’. At  the 2018 City People Movie Awards, She was nominated for Revelation of the Year, Best New Actress and Best Upcoming Actress. Bimbo’s role in Backup Wife also earned her a nomination for Best Lead Role at 2018 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. She has also received two individual nominations at the 2018 Best of Nollywood Awards for her role in Personal Assistant, winning the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and getting a nomination for Best Kiss in a Movie. Bimbo Ademoye has been described as a celebrity style icon by several media outlets and she is undeniably an excellent actor who has proven to be worthy of this award.

Another nollywood practitioner who has made us proud is Kasum Kayode. Kasum started his career in film making as a motion graphics designer at Wale Adenuga Productions. He also worked as a producer in an advertising company. His first feature film, Dognapped and Nigeria’s first live action animation film was released in 2017. He however gained popularity for his film titled Oga Bolaji which was released in 2018 and has made other Nollywood productions including Sugar Rush and Toyin Abraham’s Fate of Alakada.

Kasum is credited with directing Nigeria’s first live-action animated movie and one of Nigeria’s highest-grossing film ever.

He was nominated for The Future Awards Africa 2019 prize for Filmmaking and was listed as one of the top Nollywood film directors of 2020. Finally in 2022 Kasum won the future award prize for film. It is therefore safe to say Kasum has worked hard to reach this height and he deserves this award on all grounds.
