AMVCA AWARDS, THE STORY CONTINUES

The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2022 has continued to make headlines even weeks after the event. As much as there have been lots of congratulatory and encouraging messages to all the winners and those who didn’t win respectively, it is imperative to also note that some people have raised eyebrows at the conducts and some of the actions of the Organisers of the event.

One of them is the Nollywood actor, Stanley Nweze who has called out the Organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for neglecting actors from the southeast.

The actor made this known through a post he shared on his Instagram story that read; “AMVCA ‘African Magic Viewers Choice Awards’ sincerely should be changed to Lasgidi/Lagos awards or something else because there are a lot of good actors and crew members in other areas under the same Nollywood working really hard that you all don’t recognize.”

He further lamented , “I think AMVCA should have a commercial category so that the Enugu and Asaba actors can fit in because if skit/online content can be added to the award categories, then why should commercial actors be left out…It’s not clear to me.”

However, Nollywood Actress, Esther Audu was of the opinion that most Asaba and Enugu-based actors did not get the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) nominations because some of their movies submitted for the award consideration got declined.

Reacting to Stanley’s statement , Esther noted that if a movie meets up to the award criteria, it will be nominated for a befitting category. She wrote on her Instagram post, “There is an open announcement for submission of movies for awards, movies submitted will definitely be screened and some will be accepted and others declined. There are criteria and standards they expect from movies, so if a movie meets up to that standard then it will be scrutinized and likely put up for nominations” .
