KINGS AND QUEENS OF NOLLYWOOD TYPECASTING

The responsibility of casting actors for role interpretation is rested on the shoulder of the casting director or/and film director. Different factors are responsible for the choice of cast and the decision of the director. Chief amongst these factors is appropriateness of the cast for the role, be it in look, idiosyncrasies or other factors. To most directors, it does not matter if the same actor has played similar role in many films. Be it a table casting or open air auditioning, some actors are known for specific roles in Nollywood. This week, we have combed the list of Nollywood actors to feature some faces that are known for typecasting. Typecasting is the process of casting male or female actor to the same character repeatedly based on the appropriateness of their appearance or previous success in such roles.  In this compilation, we profile some regular faces in Nollywood that are known for specific roles.

 

10- KELVIN NGOZI IKEDUBA

Kelvin Ikeduba is a Nigerian cross-over actor who was born in the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos on 21st August, 1976. He is uniquely known for his diversity with the usage of the Yoruba, Igbo language and even pidgin. Kelvin has been in the movie industry since 2000 till date. He is known for the roles of a bad boy, cultist and a hoodlum.

 

  1. IRETIOLA DOYLE

Iretiola Doyle is a film producer, writer, actress and a presenter. She lived her early years in Boston, United States with her family. She was born on May 3, 1967 in Ondo State.

Iretiola, mostly play the role of a rich, famous mother, mother-in-law and even a career woman in movies. Such roles fits her perfectly as it almost looks like if she takes on other roles, she might not deliver as well as the usual.

 

  1. FAUSAT BALOGUN

Fausat is popularly known as Madam Saje. She was born on February 13, 1959 in Ifelodun L.G.A of Kwara State. She is a Nigerian actress.

Madam Saje is mostly paired with Odunlade Adekola and she takes on the role of Odun’s mother perfectly in movies. Not just Odunlade alone though. Madam Saje has an attractive way she delivers her roles as mother and mother-in-law in movies.

The name, ‘Madam Saje’ was earned from a rested television series of late Baba Suwe that she featured in, titled ‘ERIN KEE KEE’.

 

  1. PETER FATOMILOLA

 

Peter Fatomilola is a Nigerian actor, poet, a playwright and, a dramatist. He was born January 16, 1946 in Ekiti State.

He is known for the role of ‘herbalist’ always played in movies. Record has it that, it’s as a result of background, as his biological father was a prominent Chief Ifa Priest in his lifetime. He has acted as a chief priest in a number of Yoruba movies.

 

  1. JOHN IKECHUKWU OKAFOR

John Okafor is popularly known as, ‘Mr IBU’. He was born 17 October, 1961 in Nkanu, Enugu State. Mr IBU is a Nigerian actor and a comedian.

His roles are usually comical. He is known to always take on roles that depicts imbecility, laziness, lousiness and the likes. He delivers in this specific roles well that anything that looks like stupidity isn’t hard to attach to his name.

 

  1. CHIWETELA AGWU

Chiwetela Agwu is a Nigerian actor and comedian who was born in 1956. He is known for his indigenous clichés and slangs used in movies. He mostly play the role of a village uncle who is always ready to do evil and revenge for every bad thing done to him or any one related.

In 2012, he won the Nollywood Award for the Best Actor in Indigenous Language.

 

  1. SOLA SOBOWALE

Sola Sobowale is mostly known as, TOYIN TOMATO. She is an actress, producer and a screenwriter. She was born 26, December 1963 in Ondo State, Nigeria.

Sola always played roles that speaks leadership always. She is always the classy woman that has people looking up to her or following closely after her in her movie roles.

She has scripted, co-scripted and produced several movies in Nollywood. She is the brand ambassador for Mouka mattress company’s Wellbeing range.

 

 

  1. ADEBAYO SALAMI

Salami is also known as ‘Oga Bello’. He is a Nigerian actor, film producer, director and producer.

He was born on May 9, 1953 in Lagos State though he is from Kwara State. He sometimes have a mix of roles but, he majorly acts as a rich dad, uncle, father or father-in-law.

He has been around in the movie industry since 1964. He has won awards for his great roles played.

 

  1. PATIENCE OZORKWO

Patience popularly known as Mama G is an actress, fashion designer and a musician. She was born 14th September, 1958 in Amaoba, Enugu State.

She has been active in the movie industry since 1999 till date. She is known for her role as a wicked mother, wife, mother-in-law, step-mother and even grand mother. This role has practically made some people believe that’s how she is in reality. She won the Best Supporting actress in 2012 & 2013.

 

  1. PETE EDOCHIE

Chief Pete Edochie is a Nigerian actor and one of the most revered actors in Nollywood and Nigeria at large.

He is known to take up roles of Kingship, rulership and village head. He can never be down trodden or beaten in any form. He became prominent after his role as Okonkwo played in Chinua Achebe’s ‘THINGS FALL APART’.
